Zeutschel ZED Server – OSCAR links perfectly
Zeutschel is presenting the software architecture ZED server at the CeBIT. Interaction and communication between the individual components of the Zeutschel software range OSCAR (OMNI Software for Connected Applications and Resources) will be considerably optimised using the technical platform. Through the direct link of the OS QM tools with the Omniscan (OS) 12, it will be possible, for example, to execute quality management tasks even during the scanning process. Furthermore, with additional functionality, the ZED server offers more value to the Open Source digitization solution Goobi.
“Via the ZED server, Goobi users receive additional added value such as a Z39.50 interface or the direct link to the Zeutschel scanning software OS 12. As a result of this, during digitization projects the individual workflow steps are perfectly linked together”, explains Michael Luetgen, Sales Director Software Solutions at Zeutschel.
Tübingen, February 2012 – The Zeutschel ZED server brings a wide variety of benefits to Goobi projects: The integration of existing Zeutschel software tools, new functionalities and modules designed by Zeutschel as well as customization. “As a result of this,” says Michael Luetgen, “we ensure development of Goobi is sustainable”.
Implementing efficient workflows
According to the Zeutschel software specialist, the Z39.50 interface is an example of this. This interface makes it possible to call up bibliographical information from the different catalogue systems from Goobi.
Also currently available is a convenient link between the Zeutschel scanning software Omniscan (OS) 12 and the Open Source digitization solution. This means that important meta- and structure data is also able to be captured during scanning and seamlessly transmitted to Goobi.
An interface to link the various OCR tools used today is also currently in the pipeline.
Discussions are also underway for integration with storage solutions of external providers in order to realise an efficient storage and archiving and sustainable long-term archiving.
Technical basis for Goobi ZED
By creating the technical requirements with the ZED server, Zeutschel also now fulfils the promise of Goobi ZED (Zeutschel Edition): Making a powerful, customized tool for digitization projects from flexible workflow software”, explains Michael Luetgen.
Further services of Zeutschel EDition are a comprehensive consulting and training service, integration services, hosting options, technical support relating to installation, operation and updates as well as – last but not least – implementation of customizations.
The extensive functional enhancements are now also conducted via the ZED server. Once installed on the customer’s premises, the desired functions can be licensed and activated on request.
